The language around kink can become confusing remarkably quickly. You have dominants, submissives, Doms, Dommes, switches, tops, bottoms and enough capital letters to make a newcomer wonder whether there is going to be an exam later. Two words in particular often get used interchangeably: Dom and dominant.

Sometimes that is perfectly reasonable. People use language differently, communities develop their own habits and there is no international committee issuing certificates for correct kink vocabulary. But there can be a useful distinction.
