Can Chemistry Be Created?

We've all heard someone say it.

"There just wasn't any chemistry."

It's usually treated as the end of the conversation. A mysterious force either appeared or it didn't. Nothing more to discuss. But is that really true? Can chemistry only happen by chance? Or is there more going on beneath the surface? The answer, perhaps surprisingly, is yes. Some chemistry is instant. Much of it is built.
