Safety Guidelines for Members

Our approach to safety

Circles is designed for adults who want to connect with other adults in a more private, respectful and straightforward environment.

We take reasonable steps to reduce harm, including age and identity checks, privacy controls, mutual messaging, reporting tools, content moderation and account restrictions. However, no online service can guarantee that every person is honest, respectful or safe.

Verification is useful, but it is not a guarantee of someone’s character, intentions or behaviour. You remain responsible for deciding what you share, who you trust and whether you feel comfortable continuing any conversation or meeting.

Your instincts are allowed to be enough. You do not need to justify ending a conversation, declining an invitation or leaving a meet.

Take your time

You do not owe anyone immediate access to your time, attention, photographs, body or personal information.

Be cautious if someone:

  • rushes you into meeting or moving off-platform;
  • becomes angry when you set a boundary;
  • repeatedly contacts you after you have declined;
  • pressures you to share intimate photographs or video;
  • asks for money, gifts, financial details or verification codes;
  • tells you to keep the connection secret;
  • refuses reasonable questions about who they are;
  • uses several accounts after being blocked; or
  • makes you feel nervous, cornered or confused.

A respectful person will accept a pause, a question or a “no” without trying to negotiate it away.

Protect your personal information

Consider using a separate email address and username for Circles. Avoid sharing information that could identify your home, workplace, daily routine, family members or exact location.

Be careful with:

  • your full name;
  • home or work address;
  • personal telephone number;
  • financial information;
  • passwords and verification codes;
  • photographs showing your home, car, street or workplace;
  • live location or regular travel patterns; and
  • photographs or videos containing other people without their permission.

Do not click unexpected links or download files sent by another member. If a message feels suspicious, stop engaging and report it.

Messaging and moving off-platform

Messaging on SwingCircles.com is intended to begin with mutual interest and consent. Someone declining, not replying or ending a conversation is not an invitation to try another account or another route.

Moving to another messaging service may feel convenient, but it also removes some of the protections and evidence available on SwingCircles.com. Take your time before doing so.

Never send money to someone you have met through Circles. Be particularly careful if a person creates an urgent crisis, promises something in return or claims they need help travelling to meet you.

Photographs, video and live rooms

Only upload photographs, videos or other material that you own or have permission to share.

Do not:

  • upload someone else’s intimate material without their clear permission;
  • record, screenshot or redistribute live rooms;
  • share another member’s identity or personal information;
  • expose someone’s face, body or circumstances without consent; or
  • threaten to publish or share intimate material.

Live rooms are not intended to be recorded by Circles unless a feature clearly says otherwise. Even so, online content can sometimes be copied using another device. Only show or say what you are genuinely comfortable losing control of.

Keep cameras, microphones and backgrounds under your control. Check what is visible before joining a room.

Consent must be clear, informed and freely given. It can be withdrawn at any time, including after a conversation has started, after someone has arrived at a venue or during sexual activity.

Consent to one thing is not consent to everything else. Consent to meet is not consent to sex. Consent to one person is not consent to another person. Consent given earlier is not a permanent agreement.

Alcohol, drugs, pressure, fear, manipulation or unequal power can affect someone’s ability to give meaningful consent. If you are unsure, pause and ask. If the answer is unclear, stop.

For couples, agree your boundaries privately before involving anyone else. Both people should be able to say no without punishment, pressure or emotional retaliation.

Before meeting someone offline

When you decide to meet, consider:

  • having a video conversation first;
  • meeting in a public place initially;
  • telling a trusted person where you are going;
  • arranging a check-in time;
  • using your own transport or having an independent way home;
  • keeping control of your phone, keys and money;
  • limiting alcohol or other substances until you feel comfortable; and
  • leaving immediately if the situation feels wrong.

For a private venue or home meet, consider sharing the address and expected return time with someone you trust. You can also agree a simple code word that means “call me” or “come and get me”.

Do not allow embarrassment, politeness or the fear of appearing rude to override your safety.

Safer sex and physical well-being

Discuss sexual health, contraception, testing, safer-sex practices and boundaries before sexual activity rather than assuming everyone has the same expectations.

Bring what you need to protect yourself. You can change your mind at any stage, and you can stop if agreed conditions are not being followed.

If someone ignores a safer-sex boundary, lies about their health or pressures you to continue, treat that seriously and report the behaviour if appropriate.

Block, report and preserve evidence

You can block or hide another member if you no longer want contact.

Use Report a Violation if someone:

  • harasses, threatens or stalks you;
  • sends unwanted sexual material;
  • pressures or coerces you;
  • appears to be under 18;
  • uses a false or duplicate account;
  • requests money or attempts a scam;
  • shares intimate material without permission;
  • records or redistributes content;
  • publishes personal information; or
  • behaves in a way that may put someone else at risk.

Where it is safe to do so, keep relevant usernames, profile links, dates, messages and screenshots. Do not put yourself at further risk to gather evidence.

Reports, complaints and appeals are separate processes. Safety reports are handled under our Content Moderation Policy. Complaints about our service are handled under our Complaints & Appeals Policy.

If you feel in immediate danger

If there is an immediate risk to your safety, contact the emergency services on 999.

For non-emergency police matters, contact 101. If someone threatens to share intimate images, consider contacting the Revenge Porn Helpline or StopNCII.org.

If you believe a child or young person may be at risk, report it immediately to the police or the appropriate safeguarding authority. Do not contact the person involved or attempt to investigate it yourself.

Our promise

We will continue to improve Circles as the service develops. That includes reviewing safety risks, listening to members, improving reporting and blocking tools, and taking action when behaviour breaches our rules.

We cannot promise that nothing unpleasant will ever happen. We can promise that safety is part of the design, not an afterthought — and that concerns raised through the proper channels will be taken seriously.
